Chapter 10

Eric’s POV

He couldn’t stop thinking of her. The way his blood coated her lips or the way hers filled him with warmth. Every time he fed from her, a flicker of a long-lost memory bubbled up inside him, but never came to the surface. Eventually, he became accustomed to it.

Several weeks had passed since their first exchange, and during that time, Eric’s feelings toward Sookie grew. He couldn’t decide if it was because he could feel her happiness humming quietly in the background or if it was something more.

“What are you brooding about?” Pam asked, as they stood side-by-side behind the bar.

“I’m not brooding. I’m thinking,” he replied.

“About Sookie?” She said her name with a little too much desire.

“She’s mine.” He narrowed his eyes at her.

“I’m well aware. Possessive much?” she muttered.

“She’s just so… So…” He had no idea how to finish his statement, so Pam started filling in the blanks.

“Delicious?”

“Yes.”

“Voluptuous?” She wiggled her eyebrows.

“Yes.”

“Hot?”

“Yes,” he agreed. “But there’s something more. I enjoy spending time with her. She’s funny and kind and sweet.”

“Holy shit!” Pam’s mouth hung open, a huge smile plastered on her face. “You’re in love with her!”

As soon as her words hit him, Eric knew they were true. He didn’t respond, unwilling to give Pam the satisfaction of being right, not that it stopped her from gloating.

“I knew it. You’ve been all googley-eyed for weeks now. Over a human,” she added in a whisper. She scanned the bar to be sure no one had overheard her.

“So?”

That did it. Pam’s shoulders slumped and the smug smile tugging at her lips fell.

“Besides, she doesn’t taste like a human,” he whispered.

“If she tastes anything like she smells…” Pam’s fangs descended just thinking about it, but she quickly got control of herself. “What is she?”

“I don’t know. Something familiar.” He frowned again.

“I wouldn’t know. I haven’t had the chance to taste her.” Pam crossed her arms over her chest like a petulant child who wasn’t getting everything on her Christmas wish list. “Are you going to tell her how you feel?”

Fear rippled through him. “I’m not sure.” Admitting that you’re in love with someone is awful unless it’s reciprocated. And how could he predict how Sookie felt about him? Best to keep his mouth shut. “How’s Marie?” he asked.

Pam smiled. “Good.”

“Good, because you’re in love?” he teased.

She shook her head. “No. Just good sex. Really good sex.” Her smile grew. “She’s coming in to see me tonight. I’ll be leaving early.” Before he could even open his mouth and respond, she added, “Ginger should be here any minute.”

“Great.” He rolled his eyes.

“What? You don’t like her?”

“She’s fine. She just seems a little … desperate.”

“For your dick,” Pam said with a laugh.

He sighed. “Seems about right.” He’d spent his life having men and women throw themselves at him, but now it seemed excessive. Unsavory.

He couldn’t keep his mind on work, no matter how much he tried. I’m in love with Sookie. What the fuck am I supposed to do now?

He ignored Ginger when she and Pam switched, but that didn’t stop her from following him around. Luckily, business picked up, keeping her occupied for most of the night. Better yet, Sookie showed up just before closing.

His face transformed into pure happiness as she walked toward him. She didn’t visit him often at work, stubbornly holding onto the notion that she would distract him, so he cherished each time.

She leaned across the bar and kissed him lightly on his lips, starting a fire inside him. “I was in the area, so I thought I’d stop by,” she said as she pulled away.

“I’m glad you did. What brought you out this way so late?”

Sookie looked at the expanse of wood under her hands. “Okay, fine. I wasn’t in the area. I missed you.” She peeked at him through her eyelashes before looking back at the bar.

He didn’t respond, but his smile grew.

She went on with a whisper, “I know I shouldn’t come here and bother you while you’re trying to work.” Her eyes flashed to Ginger, who was cleaning the tables on the other side of the empty room. “It’s unprofessional.”

“Fuck being professional. This is my bar,” he replied and narrowed his eyes. “What does Ginger have to do with it?”

She swallowed hard. “She hates me.” She looked at him again. “She’s jealous because I get to be with you.”

His jaw tightened. “I’ll speak to her.”

Sookie blushed and her eyes widened. “Please don’t! That’s why I didn’t want to tell you. She doesn’t deserve to lose her job because of me.”

He squeezed her hand. “I’m not going to fire her. Excuse me for a moment.” He walked around the end of the bar and over to Ginger. “May I have a word with you?”

Ginger smiled at him and then frowned when she noticed Sookie watching. “Sure, boss.”

He led her toward his office, but stopped once they were in the dark hallway out of sight from Sookie. He pinned her shoulders against the wall, making her squeal and sigh.

“Oh, boss. You can have anything,” she said, tittering.

“Ginger?” He waited until she looked directly into his eyes. “I don’t want you.” Her face fell and then she nodded when he went on. “You don’t want me. I’m with Sookie. You’re not jealous of her. You and I work together. There will never be anything else between us.”

Her head moved up and down as she nodded. “Yes, boss.”

“Good, now get back to work. We’re closing in five minutes.”

“Yes, boss,” she mumbled before going back to the table she’d been cleaning.

He gave Sookie a bright smile and sat in the stool next to her at the bar. “All taken care of.”

Sookie frowned and focused on Ginger. Her frown deepened, creasing her beautiful forehead. “What did you do to her?”

“I talked to her.”

She tilted her head as if she were listening and then looked at Eric. “No. It’s more than that. What did you do to her?” she repeated in a low voice. “She’s different. All her thoughts…”

“I told her I’m with you.”

“And she just forgot her hatred and jealousy?” She arched an eyebrow in disbelief.

“I glamoured her,” he admitted finally.

“You what?” She frowned again.

“I made her believe what I want her to believe.” He shrugged. “Problem solved.”

Sookie’s eyes narrowed into angry slits. “Is that how you always get what you want? Is that how you got me?”

He leaned closer. “May I remind you that you kissed me? First here, then at my house.” He planted a feathery kiss against her lips trying to soothe her, but he could sense her anger.

“You wouldn’t move off your bed. I was trying to work,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest. “You’re not answering my question.”

“It doesn’t work on you.”

“Oh! So you’ve tried it!” She swiveled in her seat and pushed away from the bar, intent on leaving.

He held her arm, refusing to let her go. “Of course I have. The night you came to pick up Beth’s car, and the night you came and yelled at me.”

“What were you trying to make me think?” She wouldn’t look at him.

“I was trying to get you to calm down while you were yelling, but the first time…”

“Yes?” A little of her anger had dissipated.

“I tried to get you to kiss me.”

“I wanted to. That’s why I forgot to breathe.” She sighed. “Why didn’t you kiss me?”

“Because I wouldn’t have been able to stop. That’s why I warned you.” He nuzzled the side of her neck. “I wanted to kiss you. Fuck you. Bite you.” He punctuated each sentence with a kiss against her throbbing skin.

Sookie gasped and then cleared her throat. “Do you still think I can’t handle myself?” She looked at him, challenging him.

“No. I know you can.”

She gave him a satisfied smile. “Can I go home with you?”

“Yes.” His cock strained against his zipper in anticipation. “Ginger, lock up!” he shouted in her direction.

“You got it, boss!” she replied and then smiled at them. “Have a good night.”

Eric led Sookie outside, where she kissed him before getting into her car. She followed him home, parking behind his side of the garage in the driveway next to Marie’s car.

“Pam has company,” he explained as they made their way through the house to his room.

“Good for her,” Sookie said, locking his door behind them. “Do it.”

“Do what?” he asked, waggling his eyebrows.

“Glamour me.”

“I told you, it doesn’t work.” He pushed a strand of hair behind her ear and cupped her face so he could kiss her.

“Please? I want to know what it feels like.” She started unbuttoning her blouse, making his mind turn to mush. “Please?” she begged as she let her shirt fall to the floor.

“Okay.” He looked into her eyes and concentrated on one thought.

Her eyebrows drew together. “So that’s what that was. I remember it now. It’s like someone squeezing my brain.”

He tried again, saying, “Get naked and fuck me.”

“That usually works for you? You just will women to drop their panties?” A mixture of amusement and disgust crossed her face.

He gripped her waistband and popped the button on her jeans. “You make me work for it,” he said, tugging the zipper down and dipping his hand inside her pants.

She moaned and closed her eyes. “So you could have anyone and make them do anything.”

“Yes,” he admitted. “But I don’t want anyone. I want you.” He lifted her off the ground and pushed his imprisoned dick against her heat. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her breasts against his chest.

“I want you, too,” she said before she kissed him, thrusting her tongue inside his mouth and licking his fangs.

A shudder worked its way through his body. He deposited her on the edge of his bed and removed her remaining clothes. She wiggled under the sheet and patted the bed next to him. He stripped as fast as he could, leaving his clothes in a disheveled pile on the floor with hers.

Once he got on the bed, Sookie grinned. He gripped her ankles and tugged her toward the middle of the bed before sucking on a finger and pushing it inside her while his thumb brushed against her clit. She moaned and writhed against his hand, coming quickly with delicious gasps. He sat back on his heels and gathered her onto his lap, his cock thrusting up between their bodies.

“I want you to bite me again,” he said.

“It’s not easy with my teeth,” she replied, licking her lips, her eyes hooded with lust.

“I’ll help you.” He brought his wrist to his lips and bit. As soon as blood came to the surface, he offered it to her. She latched her mouth onto the wound hungrily and started rubbing her slit against his length, coating it with a slippery layer of cum.

He kissed her breasts while she drank, and then she moaned against his skin and sank down on him. They remained frozen for a moment, enjoying the initial shock of pleasure. He moved slowly, trying to contain the beast inside him as she surrounded him with heat and milked his wound, getting the last few drops before his skin healed. Her head lolled backward and her blood-tinged mouth fell open. His fingers spread out across her back supporting her warm, pliable body and then he began to fuck her. Stealing her breath and making her scream, her second orgasm came hard and fast.

He wasn’t done. He rocked back and forth, setting a languid rhythm of pushing and pulling. She kissed him, a hint of blood still on her lips, and matched his movements, crushing her breasts against his chest each time they moved toward each other. What began as a gentle pace quickly gained speed, forcing her breath out of her sweet mouth in time with each thrust. A desperate keening sound spilled over her lips.

She dug her fingers into his shoulders and then gripped the back of his head and forced his face into the crook of her neck. “Bite. Me,” she gasped and cried and screamed, waiting for his fangs to complete her orgasm.

He licked the side of her neck, making her whimper. She wanted it. His lips drew back as he smiled, and then he plunged his fangs into her soft flesh. She tensed, relaxed, and then came again. Her blood spurted into his mouth and coated his throat with her warmth, filling him with happiness. Her happiness. His happiness. They mingled together inside him. Was it love he felt from her? Or was it just his? He growled and came hard.

“More,” she demanded, clinging to him desperately.

He healed her neck and kissed his way up her jaw and to her mouth. She kissed him wildly, biting, sucking, and licking his lips all while gyrating on top of him.

When she pulled away to breathe, he pushed up off his heels, forcing her onto her back. He gathered her legs against his chest and plunged deep inside her. Her eyes closed and her fingers dug into the sheets.

“Yes,” she whispered.

So he did it again, and again, and again until she stopped asking for more. Finally sated, she curled up next to him, draping her leg over his and holding his waist tightly, her ragged breath caressing his chest. Her racing pulse eventually mellowed and her breathing slowed and evened out. Her leg twitched against his.

He smiled. “You make me happy.”

She responded with a dreamy murmur and another sleepy twitch.

He caressed her cheek, relishing the velvety smoothness of her flesh. “You are so beautiful.”

No response, just a deep breath in, followed by an exhale.

“I love you,” he admitted to her sleeping form and then he kissed the top of her head and closed his eyes.

Aw! I love hopeless romantics! Eric admirals he loves her instead of denying it and deflates Pam’s teasing with “so”, awesome. Hope he tells Sookie he loves her when she can her it soon. I do believe she loves him too. Love that this Sookie is kind of a take charge girl and isn’t waiting around for him to make moves. So looking forward to updates…is it next week yet??

I love how this Eric doesnt seem to be all freaked out over the fact that he’s in love. I’m guessing Eric’s tasted a Fae before? I wonder how long it’ll take for him to put it all together.
    Thanks for the fabulous update!

    Like

    • What he can’t figure out is where he’s tasted the Fae before. That’s the important part. 😉 I think a real man would be fine with finding someone to love. No need to freak out. Just embrace it and enjoy the rewards. Thanks so much for the lovely reviewing!

Loved them together, and his acknowledgement that he loves her. And his uncertainty about telling her in case she doesn’t reciprocate (silly vampire, OF COURSE she loves you too). I also like the way he handled Ginger, perfect type of glamour for the situation.

    • After all this time, he’s finally found someone who matters. Now she just needs to hear him say it. I always figured that if he let Ginger swoon over him it was because he wanted her to. No need for that, right? 🙂 Thanks so much for reviewing!

Glad you had Ginger be glamoured rather than the pathetic exploitative TB approach…

    Like

    • Yeah, there’s a lot about TB I can’t get behind. Ginger is one of them. He would easily be able to glamour her and convince her not to have a thing for him. After a while, I’m sure it’ll wear off, but he’ll just be able to do it again. 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed the chapter. Thanks for the flattery, you know I love it! Thank you so much for reviewing!
