Spoilers! Worth It: Chapter 6

Raise your hand if you suspected Bill! I think you all deserve a gold star! I’m going to warn you now, this chapter is filled with torture, so if you’re faint of heart or a victim of torture, you might want to avert your eyes.

Now, on with the spoilers…

___________________________________________________________

A dull buzzing sound filled Eric’s head as faint light seeped through his eyelids. He squeezed his eyes shut, only intensifying the noise. White-hot pain shot across his temples. Chains rattled as he attempted to find the source of pain, and then the room filled with the aroma of burning flesh. His flesh.

Silver chains. Fuck.

“I wouldn’t move if I were you,” Bill said, his voice cold and oily.

Eric opened his eyes and tried to focus them. Slowly, the features of Bill’s face became clear. He turned toward him and a sharp spike gouged and burned the side of his head.

Bill clicked his tongue. “You just don’t listen, do you?”

Fresh blood oozed out of the side of Eric’s head. “What have you done to me?” He rolled his head the other direction, finding a matching spike.

“It took quite a bit to subdue you.” He began to walk around the table Eric was chained to.

Florescent lights hung from the dingy ceiling, illuminating the windowless concrete walls. “Where am I?” Pam, I need you!

“Somewhere safe and far away from Sookie.” A smile slid across Bill’s face and then it froze as he hovered over Eric. “She’s mine.”

“I wouldn’t be too sure of that,” Eric said as he arched his eyebrow.

“Do you like your bed? I had it custom made.” He walked toward Eric’s head, slipping on a pair of leather gloves. “This device is really wonderful.” Something clicked and then spikes enclosed his head.

Eric groaned and squeezed his eyes shut, but the pain became too much. He fought to remain conscious, but lost.

I passed the 6 week mark, which means I’m all healed up and able to do almost everything again. It’s so nice to be able to carry groceries by myself. Lame, I know, but you know how it is!! Thanks again!

Yes, I do! I just had my 2nd surgery today on my forearm for a mild/moderate melanoma. They had to go back in to be certain they got all of the cancerous tissue, so the incision this time that was one inch is now 2&1/2 inches, and the cut much deeper. The doc had to make the incision through my tattoo, but if it gets rid of the cancer, I can live with it! I can get it fixed in 6 months, but it’s not as bad as he thought it might be. I have an ugly scar on the inner side of my right arm; now I’ll have on the outside of my left arm! I can’t do anything; no lifting, no cleaning (gee, I’m disappointed), no cooking, etc. until my stitches come out in 2 weeks. I’ll look forward to getting pampered as if I don’t already! LOL! 🙂 So glad to hear you’re well! 🙂

      • Oh god! You poor thing! Melanoma is scary shit! My sister has had several removed over the years. I guess that’s her price for gardening topless, huh? I hope they got it all and that the scar is worth it. I also hope you sit back, kick up your feet and do nothing for the next 2 weeks!

Gardening topless? I’m sure the neighbors were greatly entertained! Apparently once you have one melanoma, it’s quite common to get more. You’re not kidding it’s scary shit! I had another form of cancer 20 years ago and wasn’t at all worried. This has been terrifying.

OMG! That’s just too funny! I’ll bet they’re ready to ready to leave the church (cult) once they get a good look at that! LOL! Thanks for the hope that I stay ahead of the curve; that’s my hope as well. On the other hand, this condition may also be genetic as my paternal grandmother had many, many benign ones removed, but then began to have malignant ones the older she got. At that point, she was so far lost to Alzheimer’s that she had no idea what was happening with her, and maybe that was a good thing. I’ll never know about my father because I’m now older than he was when he died. My aunt hasn’t had any, but she doesn’t spend any time outdoors in the sun and really never has, and it appears she hasn’t inherited the gene. My uncle is just so far gone mentally – he suffers from Bipolar disorder and his wife has gone so far as to permit his doctors to perform electroshock (ECT) therapy on him! That’s not a typical treatment used for bipolar patients. He’s quite delusional from what I’ve been told, and really, she’s the one who should be in treatment! I wonder if he truly is bipolar; it sounds to me as if he’s been underdiagnosed and is suffering a much worse disorder. Anyway, we can’t get any info from her other than that. It would be helpful if we could. She keeps us from getting any info, the bitch! You would think she’d let us know for our own piece of mind.

      • I think there’s one of those in every family, isn’t there? ECT sounds extreme. Just goes to show that it really does matter who you marry, because they end up having control over important decisions like that! Terrifying really. My family history is full of gaps too. I know practically nothing about my dad’s side of the family (except what my one crazy aunt tells me), and I’m not close to my mom’s side, so it’s a little weird. I just keep eating well and exercising and hoping for the best.

Yeah, my sister probably changed the minds of those young men. They were so embarrassed they had to hide behind a tree (probably to hide their boners!). She just laughs and laughs about it. 🙂

I’m the “crazy” one, but I own my insanity & love it! My hubby & I have a great time! (I’m the retired social worker/therapist) I lived a different lifestyle than them, so I wasn’t “normal.” Define “normal.” That whole gene pool thing is too funny. My eldest daughter didn’t talk to me for 2 years, and we’re now reconciling slowly, taking baby steps, but I’m so thrilled & relieved to have her back. My younger daughter… I’ve had to detach from her over the last year & it’s been both difficult & heartbreaking, but best for the situation. I can’t sit by and watch her destroy her life and I will not sit by being a silent witness while she comes & goes from my granddaughter’s life as if parenting is something that’s optional. My son is married to a young woman who is so immature & uses their son as a weapon; that divorce will be one for the record books. As a mother, a good mother, the only thing you can do is stand in the wings and watch them make their mistakes, and then be there when they need you, or ask for you. You never stop being a mom. 🙂

Ironically, on the rare occasions when me & my sisters are together, that’s all we do – bicker endlessly – not me as much as I once did. I’m too old & tired to bicker about 40-year old events! 🙂 Still it drives my mom nuts, so I figure that our kids doing the same is a form of secret revenge. 🙂

LOL! That is so awesome! The humanity, indeed! I can just imagine the looks, the rolling of the eyes (which I swear I threatened 100 times a week would stay that way because I would make sure they did), and oh! The pouting! Stick that lip out more cause I need to sit down! Rural quiet street or suburban street with school bus stop right in front of the house, you can just hear the thoughts…”I hope none of my friends see me!” LOL!
Our granddaughter was just here for the weekend. We had the greatest time. She’s a doll & a very happy little girl. She had homework – from preschool! She will be “Elsa” for Halloween because we got her the princess dress. We got her all good & sugared up right before she was going home too. 🙂 That’s my favorite part of being “Na Na”. You know what always makes me laugh? That when I tell people I write, they always assume I write children’s books. Because I’m a mom. Give me a break. Sure I COULD write something as tame as children’s books, but it’s the sex I want! I suppose that’s why I don’t really advertise my motherhood here (except to you and whoever is reading this incredibly long, random thread), or tell people in the real world that I write. It keeps things less complicated. I need a bit of a crowbar between the two, because moms aren’t supposed to want sex, right? Yeah. How do women get pregnant again? Hmm, I’ll think about it and get back to you. 🙂

        LMAO! You deserve 2 cupcakes!
What would be the fun in writing children’s books? We want to get AWAY from our kids! I remember during all the big snows in the 90’s my neighbor & I would go out & do all the shoveling for the neighborhood because we knew it was the ONE place our kids wouldn’t follow! We could get away & actually talk without interruption! We’d eventually be freezing & then sneak over to my house! The little brats always found us.
The boys were never as bad as the girls though. Still aren’t. The boys were just goofy & would wrestle around, make noise. The girls just never quit.

I know how I got pregnant; I just have trouble sometimes remembering why I wanted to in the first place! I told mine when they were expecting that this is the easy, fun part. It only gets worse. They aren’t that far removed from being teenagers that they can’t remember, especially my son & his wife. Their son just started kindergarten 😦 They’re only 23 & 24. So they were very, very young. His wife graduated from HS a week before she had my grandson! It was bizarre.

I used to do editing for 2 erotica sites, so, basically porn! My husband took my old laptop into work with him for a friend of his to fix it so we’d have an extra, and I didn’t think anything of it. When he brought it home a week later, he told me that his friend said there was a lot of crazy stuff on it. I asked him what kind. He wouldn’t say. I finally dragged it out of him, and it was the erotica! He finally realized what it was & so he went back to work the next day & explained to the guy what kind of work I did; I guess so the guy wouldn’t think I was some kind bored housewife pervert!! Of course all he noticed was the erotica stuff, not the 500 other files of regular, old non-pornographic work! I think the two of them were really embarrassed! Like only men are interested in this stuff? Of course, the men don’t read, it has to be visual… I laughed my ass off! My husband insisted I remove it so I put it all on an external hard drive to save him from future humiliation. Silly men. His friend probably downloaded his own copy.

Nope, moms & wives are not supposed to want or think about sex. We are recycled virgins. 🙂

      • Recycled virgins? That would be a great band name! 🙂

I know what you mean about husbands getting embarrassed. I told mine that I write a lot of erotica, and while he hasn’t read it (at least I don’t think he has), he knows to stay away from my computer. It’s great though, because me writing has opened up a whole lot of dialogue between us. I honestly think it’s improved our relationship. 🙂 I think men need to understand that erotica isn’t garbage. It’s important for a lot of women. It’s an escape. We all need that, right? Of course, there are plenty of judgmental people out there that wouldn’t speak to me again if they knew what I write, so I just keep it to myself most of the time.

I can’t imagine having babies right out of high school. God, I waited so long that my family assumed I had fertility problems. Um…no. It’s called birth control. LOL.

I like escaping from my kids too, which is why I love when they both go to school. That’s new for me this year…and I’m loving it! 🙂 That way, when they get home, I’m actually kind of happy to see them. 🙂 Well…until the bickering starts.

I know what you mean about being kind of happy to see the kids when they get home from school. I didn’t get to be with mine when they were babies. I went back to work & school when my daughter was 3 months old, and my other two I adopted from my batshit crazy sister. I wasn’t there when my youngest daughter was born (there are 10 months between my girls), but I was the labor coach for my son and the first one to hold him. He ended up in the NICU because my sister had an infection, and in those 2 days we bonded. I think that made a huge difference throughout his life. Anyway, I became disabled and fully retired when they were teenagers so I got to be at home! I thought it was great! The girls were not so thrilled. My son’s never been much of a problem as long as his bio mother isn’t around, and though I taught them all o be careful with the birds & bees, these things happen. By the time my grandson was born, they were out of high school – barely – and they’ve had their struggles, but they’re coming up on their 2nd wedding anniversary and seem to be pretty happy. His wife has some growing up to do. She’s just turned 23 & has a way to go. I do my best to be patient with her because she hasn’t had many shining examples to guide her as far as what real married life is, how a truly happy married couple works things out, and that you can’t have everything now. It takes years to accumulate the material possessions she wants now. I keep telling her not to rush her life. She sees what we have and wants it. We’re in our 50’s! It took work & it’s not as much as she believes.
My mom had all of us young. She had 6 kids by the time she was 27. She’s 75 now; I’m 55. I’m the 4th kid. I had another older brother who’s been deceased since 1972. I can’t even imagine. No wonder she’s crazy! 🙂
I was always the one in my family deemed ‘Most Likely to Get Knocked Up,” but I didn’t have my daughter till my late 20’s. I had stuff to do, and fun to have! Turns out she was the only one I could have, but I was blessed with the other two although sometimes I think it was more of a curse! 🙂

I think that’s great that your husband’s attitude is open and he’s aware of your writing. If it helps your relationship, even better. You’re correct, erotica isn’t the same as porn, although some would argue that. There those judgmental people mentioned; they’re the same ones who have the books I edited at home under their beds! Erotica is more allusion, hinting or suggestive, rather than just straight out raunchiness; this is far more appealing to women because of the lack of the visual, at least by my definition. I think the hint or allusion would be more appealing to men as well, but the only one I’ve ever asked is my husband who just mumbled and went back to reading the Huffington Post. He’s 55, what I can say? 🙂 He used to be more fun. Now he’s grumpy. I’ve known him for 45 years so I can read him like a book.

Yeah, the judgmental people. They’re out there. My mother damn near had a heart attack when I told her what type of literature I was editing, and told me it wasn’t literature. Really? OK. I don’t argue with her. I just pass the wine bottle.

The recycled virgin name came from when I split up with my first husband & moved back in with my parents. My sister was living there as well with her (now my younger) daughter. We would help each other out with babysitting when the other might want to go out & have some fun; we were still young! She was REALLY young! She was 20! Our mother would have a fit if we went out & stayed out really…early. We started calling ourselves recycled virgins. I was getting damn close to 30; if I wanted to go have fun, she wasn’t going to hold me back!! LOL! 🙂

It does sound like a band though… Good call. I’ll have to mention it to the girls. We’re the “Baby Blues.” 🙂

I’ve been with my kids since they were born. It’s been rough, to say the least. The feeling of worthlessness that comes with caring for others and not having a ‘real job.’ I struggled with depression for years, and then I found fanfiction. It saved my ass. Writing is better therapy than anything I’ve ever done before. Don’t get me wrong. Watching them grow has been an amazing journey, and I love them very much (when I don’t want to kill them). It’s just difficult to balance worth and motherhood. You know. I’m sure you do. 🙂 You sound like an amazing mother. 🙂

Thank you! So do you! There’s no worthlessness in being a mother though! It’s the MOST important & fulfilling task, job, vocation, whatever you want to call it, that you’ll ever have. You have these beautiful little human beings you’ve created and they are completely reliant upon you for everything. They love you unconditionally even when they are adolescents and claim to hate you. You’re responsible for the individuals they will someday be, and this is a beautiful thing. It does seem insurmountable at times, but there’s no finer reward. Children and parenting IS a full time job; 24-hours, 7 days week, 365 days a year! You don’t get health benefits or days off, or two-week vacations, and you can forget about sick days! Between all of that, you’ve got a home to maintain, errands to run, kids to chauffeur, meals to make, and when are your 15-minute breaks? You work harder than anyone with a “real” job!! I had a real job combined with motherhood & can’t tell you how much I had to let go because I simply could not get everything done. There is no way I could have done everything you do!
You have so much worth, so much more than you realize, and one day, you will see it. It will all be reflected in your children. They will be amazing, because they had you.

As for my complicated family & the bizarre experiences, I’ve had more than most, but I’ve lived a long time. Some of the most bizarre came in the span of 5 years, but at least I got them all out of the way quickly!! It’s been an interesting 55 years!

      • Damn it all, you’re going to make me cry over here, so just knock it off. Will ya? 🙂 It’s funny how society treats women, and even other moms talk to each other about ‘real’ jobs, as if what we do isn’t work somehow. I type all of this intermittently while playing bedtime music and rubbing tiny legs with growing pains. I hope what you say is true. I hope that what I do has some positive impact in their lives and I hope that some day I can accept that I had a role in shaping their personage.

I think that perhaps you are not giving yourself enough credit if you think I do more than you. Sure, I do stuff, but so do you. 😉 I can’t imagine working a ‘real’ job AND everything else. Talk about overworked! You’re amazing, that’s all. 🙂

I can’t believe I’ve been chatting with you all week & have forgotten to tell you about “The Dream Team” contest. Can you see my email address on your blog? If so, please email me because I wanted to ask you something about it.

Too many pain pills, too many kids. See what they’ll do to your brain…
